Technology Teaching Tools are short, online, asynchronous modules highlighting a technology teaching tool along with relevant pedagogical implementation strategies. Some of the CIRT Technology Tools discussed below rely on freeware downloads. Pedagogical Ideas

In the classroom, Skype can be used in a variety of ways. Some ideas include the following:

  • Video Pen Pal- Students video chat via Skype with pen pals around the globe. This is a great tool for multicultural exchange of ideas.
  • Video Greeting Card - Connect with a student on long-term illness via Skype and help him/her remain connected to the class. A weekly conference can go a long way to keeping the connection and keeping the homebound student learning.
  • Distance Lecture -Using the multi-user video conference allows teachers to deliver real-time classroom lectures/lessons to students working at a distance.
  • Teacher Exclusive: Collaborative Connection - Use Skype to connect with colleagues in other buildings or other districts for collaboration without the drive. Skype now allows multi-user video conferences, so collaboration is easier than ever.
