Technology Teaching Tools

Technology Teaching Tools are short, online, asynchronous modules highlighting a technology teaching tool along with relevant pedagogical implementation strategies. Some of the CIRT Technology Tools discussed below rely on freeware downloads. Prior to utilizing these technologies, you are encouraged to understand the potential risks associated with freeware; see the article "Why Free Software Downloads Aren't Always Safe" for an overview of key considerations.

Pedagogical Ideas

In the classroom, Join.Me can be used in a variety of ways. Some ideas include the following:

  • Study Group - Students use Join.Me to participate in regularly-scheduled study groups. By sharing their screens with one another, students can share notes, pictures, even web sites that expand their learning. This every student to be included, eliminates the need for transportation, and makes it possible for all students to connect in meaningful ways.
  • Teacher Exclusive: Intermediate Parent-Teacher Conference - Use Join.Me to share your screen with parents who have questions between regularly-scheduled conferences. Sharing your screen allows you to share their student's paper or other submitted materials with the parent without having to spend hours in traffic. Keeping the lines of communication open is always a good thing!
  • Administrator Exclusive: Board Meeting Preparation - Use Join.Me to share your screen with colleagues as you prepare for the regular Board meeting. This allows everyone to see and hear the same things so there is a beginning of agreement before the meeting ever begins.
