Technology Teaching Tools

Technology Teaching Tools are short, online, asynchronous modules highlighting a technology teaching tool along with relevant pedagogical implementation strategies. Some of the CIRT Technology Tools discussed below rely on freeware downloads. Prior to utilizing these technologies, you are encouraged to understand the potential risks associated with freeware; see the article "Why Free Software Downloads Aren't Always Safe" for an overview of key considerations.

Pedagogical Ideas

In the classroom, PhotoSnack can be used in a variety of ways. Some ideas include the following:

  • Art Portfolio - Students take digital photos of their physical art works and upload them to PhotoSnack to create a digital portfolio. Works that are created in digital form are even easier to upload. The portfolios are them played as slide shows during open house, parent-teacher conferences, or special school events. Older students can even post their portfolios for use as job-search artifacts.
  • All About Me - Students love to talk about themselves. So, have them load digital photos and other images into PhotoSnack to create a slide show that describes themselves. Play these early in the class to introduce students to each other.
  • Administrator Exclusive: Facilities Development Proposal - Upload digital versions of artist's renderings, photos of the existing inadequate facilities, and other pertinent images to create the emotional need for the new facility. Share this with board members, potential donors, and other stakeholders.
