Technology Teaching Tools

Technology Teaching Tools are short, online, asynchronous modules highlighting a technology teaching tool along with relevant pedagogical implementation strategies. Some of the CIRT Technology Tools discussed below rely on freeware downloads. Prior to utilizing these technologies, you are encouraged to understand the potential risks associated with freeware; see the article "Why Free Software Downloads Aren't Always Safe" for an overview of key considerations.

Pedagogical Ideas

In the classroom, SlideShare can be used in a variety of ways. Some ideas include the following:

  • Class Meeting - Use SlideShare to hold a class meeting regardless of student location. This connects distance students into the class and gives them a sense of identity.
  • Take It Viral! - Got a great presentation that everyone should see? Use SlideShare to load the presentation to social media for wider viewing.
  • Teacher Exclusive: Be Sure They Read It - Use SlideShare to post lesson presentations from the classroom. The analytic tools in SlideShare help you know if the presentation was viewed.
  • Teacher Exclusive: Research Collaboration - Use SlideShare to trade research data and ideas with colleagues. SlideShare can also be used to share the presentation as a "funding pitch" during the grant-seeking process.
