Technology Teaching Tools

Technology Teaching Tools are short, online, asynchronous modules highlighting a technology teaching tool along with relevant pedagogical implementation strategies. Some of the CIRT Technology Tools discussed below rely on freeware downloads. Prior to utilizing these technologies, you are encouraged to understand the potential risks associated with freeware; see the article "Why Free Software Downloads Aren't Always Safe" for an overview of key considerations.

Pedagogical Ideas

In the classroom, LiveBinders can be used in a variety of ways. Some ideas include the following:

  • Class Notes - Students use LiveBinders to create a notebook for every class. Notes are entered from their laptop computers in class and can be edited from home. No more unreadable hand-written notes! Students add weekly journal entries to help them process the information from the week. Notebooks with journal entries can be turned in to the instructor periodically for review.
  • Club Minutes - Students can securely and neatly store minutes for the honor society, glee club, chess, club, etc. These are then available for review by school officials as needed.
  • History Project - Students gather resources on their assigned topic and organize them into the final project. Drafts, appendices, and final project are all readily available for the teacher to review and score. Teachers can couple this with Jing to provide video feedback on the project.
  • Teacher Exclusive: Unit Plans -Collect all of the resources needed for a unit plan, organize everything, and save it all to LiveBinders. It is ready for presentation whenever necessary.
