ABSTRACT

Student engagement in on-ground classrooms is a heavily researched topic. Yet, the data indicates that instructors struggle to engage today’s generation of savvy social media learners for whom life is a continuous stream of feeds, making it even more difficult to capture their attention. Therefore, a multidimensional engagement approach may be necessary, and it must entail deliberative, iterative, dynamic, and instructor-specific elements. This presentation presents a personalized 4-4-4 Student Engagement model with measurable outcomes. It focuses on an evolving blend of four teaching and learning methods, four dominant beliefs from the Teaching Perspective Inventory, and four IDEA Center-based teaching and learning approaches.
