Module 7: Analysis II. Politics and Ethics Perspectives

  1. Interventions
    1. What are the current interventions in place?
    2. Descriptions of the intervention and why

When thinking about the political aspects, think about the risk factors like feasibility that the policy is successful, in terms of being adopted and implemented. Use the following questions to assess the policy perspective:

  • Who are the current supporters and opponents of the policy?
  • What are the impacts of the policy on other sectors discussed (economic, ethical, epidemiological, and medical)?
  • What are the current politics surrounding this policy in terms of political history, policy debate, and environment of the policy?
  • What are the possible perspectives of social, educational, and cultural aspects impacted?

After answering these questions, formulate a paragraph or two. Ensure that you use facts and evidence from your literature review and credible resources and not just opinions on the causes of positions, party affiliations, and reasons for anticipations or delays of policies. Focus on descriptions. When reviewing the ethical perspective, ensure you understand different ethical frameworks, utilitarianism, Kantian, communitarianism, virtue, and contemporary. However, the general moral considerations are crucial in assessing the perspective. Read the resource Section 1 in the Good Decision Making in Real Time in this module to get an overview of the different ethical theories and perspectives.

Furthermore, according to Mintrom (2019), the following are principles that as analyst we must ensure to follow while reviewing the policy for proper ethical practices, Integrity, competence, responsibility, respect, and concern. Remember, when reviewing the policy, close attention is made to identify information on what implications are encountered if any, ethical for the intervention. Is there a balance of taking the stakeholders and policy maker’s perspectives?
