Wall Street Journal: A Guide to Encourage Student Critical Thinking

Marnie Davis

Leadership and faculty in the Colangelo College of Business have cultivated a partnership with the Charles Schwab Foundation to provide opportunities for our business students. One outcome was free access to the Wall Street Journal online for business faculty and students. Resistance to change was a challenge because a small percentage of students were taking advantage of this offer. A small group of online fulltime faculty collaborated to find a solution to encourage active engagement with the Wall Street Journal. Through this collaborative effort an idea emerged that not only is getting more students engaged but also is developing the much-needed critical thinking skills. This presentation demonstrates that working together to solve common problems is a successful strategy.
