Using Loom to Demonstrate Statistical Analyses in the Online Classroom
Danielle Henderson
PUB-550, Application and Interpretation of Public Health Data, is a course in the Master of Public Health curriculum in which students learn to conduct descriptive and inferential statistical in Excel and SPSS. Statistics is a difficult subject for students to learn online, but studies have shown implementing short video lectures in the online platform can enhance student learning and improve course success. The purpose of this presentation is to highlight the implementation of instructional videos created through Loom in PUB-550, a course with high withdrawal and fail rates. Short (4 minutes or less) videos were developed, and the links were provided to students in the Discussion Question Forum. The videos were placed in the topic resources in the course revision process, therefore all students who take the course can benefit from this resource to help with mastery of objectives. Students have commented on the usefulness of the videos in EOCS.
