Abstract

In recent years, online education in institutions of higher learning has exponentially expanded the application of digital approaches to learning. The Learning Management Systems (LMS) used by online instruction provide a variety of tools to enhance learning with peers and instructors (Yount & Neild, 2022). One such tool, Asynchronous Discussion Boards (ADB), provides a unique opportunity for students to explore and apply content as students become critical thinkers and reflective learners (Warr & Sampson, 2020). This study uncovers specific practices online instructors can employ to increase student engagement in ADB. Extension of overall time spent in the online class and overall course grades were also observed.
