My research work focuses on written language and discourse in a broad spectrum of print and digital media, as it reveals comprehension and production processes involved in learning and acquiring a second language. I am especially interested in investigating the effect of computer-mediated communication, online forums, and new technologies on various aspects of learners’ target language use, including reading, writing, listening, speaking and discourse development, as well as on cognitive,…
I do believe that my teaching philosophy follows the teacher-scholar model. In order to inform my teaching responsibilities, I do conduct research studies focusing on relevant areas of investigation. This endeavor provides the guideline to bring up-to-date information to the classroom, comparing theories and practices pertinent to the courses being taught. My research agenda include topics pertinent to public policy, governance, human rights, as well as human development and its relation to…
Craig Drurey had the opportunity to write and or make contributions in three different capacities during 2017. One opportunity was an article written for a ministry leadership magazine called Grace and Peace that serves the Church of the Nazarene. The article is titled, “Wesleyan Practices: My Journey Toward the Class Meeting,” and was published in the summer edition, Issue 13. The article describes Drurey’s faith journey that led him to consider the place and importance of small accountability…
As a mathematics educator, my goal is to elevate learners’ knowledge to be able to apply mathematical skills and quantitative reasoning to the workplace. My scholarly research revolves around this goal and it focuses on two main areas: active learning and inter-disciplinary pedagogical applications.
I strive to create meaningful classroom activities and assessment that engage students, by posing relevant questions that can be answered through the use of certain mathematical competencies. I…
Lindsay H. Ryan received her Ph.D. in 2008 from the Pennsylvania State University in Human Development and Family Studies. Dr. Ryan is an investigator on several ongoing research projects funded by the National Institute on Aging, all of which involve an interest in better measuring and understanding the processes by which adults change over the life course. Broadly, her research is focused on the ways in which psychosocial factors and contexts affect health (physical and cognitive) and…
My scholarship focuses on the applications of advanced quantitative methods, such as hierarchical linear modeling, structural equation modeling, and longitudinal growth modeling to interrogate issues in mathematics education. Specifically, my research investigates such issues as student mobility, socio-economic factors, gender differences, school resources, and teacher quality, as they pertain to mathematics achievement in the United States, Caribbean, and Sub-Saharan Africa.
This year I am working on expanding my research into Information System Security. I am finishing up a thesis for Master of Information Technology in Information Assurance and Security, which I will complete in January. The research study is entitled, “Exploring Methods to Empower Users to Identify and Address Spear Phishing Attacks to Combat Ransomware and Identity Theft.” Upon completion of the thesis, I will also take the information from the study and publish a peer-reviewed article. I have…
Kimber Underdown has been researching the use of humor in the classroom, usingFlipgrid to engage online students in more meaningful discussions and toamplify student voice in the online environment, and utilizing recognition inthe workplace and in the classroom. She currently utilizes a variety oftechnologies in her online classroom, and has implemented some new recognitionpractices for both her fellow faculty members and her students. In 2018, Kimberis planning on attending more conferences…
Dr. Victor C. X. Wang, Dissertation Chair at Grand Canyon University/Recipient of 2016 AAACE Presidential Award, has published more than 230 referenced books, book chapters, and journal articles. These publications address andragogy and pedagogy, which can be considered as the umbrella under which such areas as andragogical curriculum and program development, management, human performance technology, social justice, global education, diversity and E-learning are addressed. Thus far, Dr. Wang…
Galyna Kufryk is interested in regulation of biological processes in microbial cells and their practical applications. She works primarily with cyanobacteria, photosynthetic microorganisms that use the sunlight as a source of energy to drive biosynthetic reactions. This group is extremely versatile and virtually ubiquitous, found in nearly every natural environment where the sunlight is present. Dr. Kufryk is looking to explore the natural capacity of these microorganisms for biofuel…
