My research work focuses on written language and discourse in a broad spectrum of print and digital media, as it reveals comprehension and production processes involved in learning and acquiring a second language. I am especially interested in investigating the effect of computer-mediated communication, online forums, and new technologies on various aspects of learners’ target language use, including reading, writing, listening, speaking and discourse development, as well as on cognitive, motivational, and instructional aspects involved in second language proficiency and communicative competence. To that end, I explore on and offline discourse for learning and teaching from sociocultural approaches, and evaluate second language literacy development. Most of my research work involves an interdisciplinary approach as well as qualitative and quantitative data triangulated from multiple sources.
