Abstract

Asynchronous instruction opens the door for EdTech and various platforms can be leveraged to build a positive classroom community. These include the integration of Canva, YouTube, and Spotify. Special focus is given to the Song of the Week and Some Good News newsletters and posts emailed out every Monday, and shared weekly with students. This presentation includes a variety of examples for creating hierarchy and consistency within the DQ forums to alleviate student stress, and encourage rapport that leads to a willingness to connect with peers and the instructor. Future research opportunities: How does focusing on daily good news impact student outlook and success? How does integrating music discussion in online classroom motivate students, and encourage peer-peer connection in an online community?
