The Resource Studio

The Resource Studio is a working space for educators designing more human online learning.

This studio houses ready-to-use discussion prompts and classroom resources grounded in social presence. Each resource is built for immediate use, copy, adapt, and drop directly into your course to support connection, belonging, empathy, reflection, and community.

Rather than treating online learning as transactional, the studio invites educators to design relational classrooms where students feel seen, heard, and valued. These materials are practical, flexible, and shaped by ongoing social presence literacy research.

The studio grows through shared experimentation. It is not a finished archive, but a living collection built to support everyday teaching.

Dispositional Presence

Dispositional presence refers to the internal stance educators bring into digitally mediated teaching spaces. It recognizes that presence is not only enacted through strategies or tools, but through enduring professional dispositions and professional knowledge that shape how instructors design, communicate, and relate to learners. In this view, faculty are not merely content deliverers; they are co-participants in a learning community whose attitudes, values, relational habits, and pedagogical understanding influence the educational climate.

UNMUTED: Finding Your Voice in Online Learning

Connection can’t be copy-pasted.

UNMUTED is a ready-to-use series of discussion prompts that help students understand why participation matters in online classrooms. Each prompt reframes discussion forums as shared spaces for connection, voice, and presence rather than routine assignments.

Faculty can drop these prompts directly into any course to encourage authentic participation, belonging, and human conversation. The goal is simple: help students show up as people, not just posts.

UNMUTED strengthens habits of communication that carry beyond a single class, into future learning, professional environments, and everyday relationships.

Motivated Presence

Motivated Presence is a collection of short, instructor-modeled encouragement videos designed to humanize online learning spaces. These weekly messages demonstrate how faculty can lead with clarity, warmth, and forward-focused mindset.

Each video is ready to embed into an LMS announcement or discussion forum. They serve as examples of visible teaching presence reinforcing resilience, growth, and momentum in the learning journey.

Encouragement is not separate from pedagogy. It is one way presence is practiced.

Relational Presence

Relational Presence posts are ready-to-use discussion prompts designed to strengthen connection, reflection, and community in online classrooms. Each check-in invites students to pause, share, and engage with one another in ways that build social presence and support character development.

These prompts are course-neutral and can be dropped directly into any discussion forum. They are designed to encourage authentic voice, empathy, and belonging while creating space for meaningful interaction. Relational Presence check-Ins help transform routine participation into human conversation.

Faithful Presence

Faithful Presence invites students to reflect on how faith shapes the way they show up in academic and relational spaces. These prompts connect spiritual formation with social presence encouraging compassion, courage, and service within online learning communities.

Each card is designed to be embedded directly into an LMS discussion forum. These reflections are simple, course-neutral, and focused on practicing Christ-centered character in digital dialogue.

Faith is not only something we believe. It is something we practice in how we engage.

Virtuous Presence

Virtuous Presence explores the character habits that shape meaningful online learning. While discussion forums develop academic thinking, they also form who we are becoming in digital spaces. This section provides ready-to-use discussion prompts that cultivate habits such as intellectual humility, empathy, courage, and integrity.

Each prompt is designed to be dropped directly into an LMS discussion forum. These discussions move beyond content mastery and invite students to practice the virtues that strengthen community, deepen learning, and build respectful dialogue.

Virtuous Presence reminds us that how we engage matters as much as what we say.

Community Presence

Community Presence posts are ready-to-use discussion structures designed to increase peer-to-peer engagement in online courses. While many discussions focus on individual responses, Community Builders shift the emphasis toward interaction, collaboration, and shared meaning-making.

Each prompt provides a simple structure that encourages students to move beyond agreement and into thoughtful dialogue. These activities help learners practice skills such as building on ideas, asking clarifying questions, synthesizing themes, and affirming peers.

Community Presence is designed to strengthen the relational core of discussion forums by helping students experience participation as conversation rather than performance.

These prompts are discipline-neutral and can be embedded directly into any LMS discussion forum.
