Assessing What Your Students Know, Want to Know, and Have Learned
One way to measure student learning quickly and efficiently is to use KWLs. Created by Donna Ogle, the letters KWL stand for "what we know", what we want to know", and "what we learned" (Ogle, 1986). This type of assessment is fantastic for instructors to gauge each student's prior knowledge.
The 2014 Online Teaching Showcase, hosted by the Center for Innovation in Research and Teaching (CIRT), started on June 3rd and will go on until June 30th.

The topic for this year's showcase is Active Learning Strategies and the presentations include a wealth of information. Two groups from GCU presented at the Teaching Professor Conference in Boston last week.
Emily Bergquist and Rick Holbeck presented "Are You Teaching What You Think You Are Teaching?" The focus of the presentation was on the use of classroom assessment techniques in the online classroom. Nicole Rhoades and Marquita Elliott, along with Dr. Jean Mandernach, presented on faculty development initiatives. They investigated the attendance, passing and signup rates of different professional development classes based on format and mode. Click here for the conference program.
