Thanks for your presentation about us as online instructors at GCU. Yes, I am sure many of us can relate to many of the points you covered. I agree that we are all challenged to have a better proximity to our students, and I am a strong proponent of video feedback. I provide it for all my students, and their feedback indicates that they do feel better informed and more at ease with approaching me with questions. I use Loom to create videos of explanation for students, too, for example of how to approach writing each essay. How do you use Loom?—Dr. Priscilla Bamba
Thanks for the feedback. I use Loom when giving feedback on final essays. I find this to be the quickest and most effective video feedback so far. I also use Loom when a student asks a question in the QFI or individual forum. Sometimes students ask questions that require too much writing, usually on a "how to do something" inquiry, I will call the student first, if they don't answer, I will create a "step-by-step" video for them through Loom and attach it as a reply to the question. I have to say, I have not latched onto Loom as quickly as some of the other Web 2.0 tools I use. I will not give up on it though.
Hi Tom, In the past I used personal videos in my classes, but now I get messages saying the files are too big and I can't use them. Can you let me know which tools(s) will allow me to create personal videos that meet file requirements?
Hi Sandi, I used Zoom to create all of my videos and I then upload them to Youtube. I then provide the link to the students in the forum. However, I use something called http://quietube.com/.
If you use Chrome you can get the Quietube extension. Quietube is great because it eliminates all ads and comments from Youtube on videos. When you add the videos to Youtube, it's best to keep them Unlisted in the settings.
