You have provided excellent take-aways in this presentation. I like how you address the importance of connecting with students to build rapport. A positive rapport as you said will encourage students to take risks and participate. I really enjoyed the video version of a Class Wall bio and will be working on creating one for my own classes as well. Thanks for the tips! Great job.
Thanks so much for viewing our presentation! I think it is paramount to build a positive rapport with our students, especially in the online environment since there is no or little face-to-face contact. I have found that it is an excellent way to “break the ice” with your students. Let me know if you have any questions. You are very welcome!
John and Sarah - this is a great presentation that clearly demonstrates the points that you present. The videos add so much and I'd really like to learn what applications you used to create them. I've not done that before and feel a little intimidated...but the videos really reinforce your 5 tips. Thanks for this presentation. Karen
Thank you for the lovely feedback, Karen! There are quite a few video recording options out there. It is important to find one that works well for you and then invest time in trying it out and learning all you can about the tool.
We stick to a simple three-pronged approach: Zoom, I-Movie, and YouTube (unlisted and/or QuietTube). Zoom can record in HD, allows for screen share, and automatically creates a separate mp3 audio file of the recording. YouTube provides a way to share the video with the class and includes quick editing options which can allow an instructor to make little cuts in the video where they may have goofed up. We use I-movie when making more of a compilation of videos or video and text such as the presentation you viewed above.
