We are in the final installment of our Social Presence in an AI-Driven Educational Landscape: Strengthening Human Connection webinar series, and this month’s focus is on the need to use AI with ethically and with purpose. As we continue exploring the evolving role of AI in higher education, let’s take a moment to reflect on how we’re using, or not using, AI in our daily work.
Think about a task you regularly do in your teaching, research, or academic support work. Now ask yourself: Would you use AI for that? Why or why not?
Examples might include:
Writing recommendation letters
Creating quiz questions
Responding to student emails
Brainstorming research ideas
Giving assignment feedback
Creating discussion forum responses
Making jokes for your slides 😄
There’s no right or wrong answer here. The goal is simply to start thinking intentionally about when, where, and how AI fits into our academic lives. Let’s learn from each other’s insights and experiences!

Yes, I use it for creating unique discussion forum responses to further promote conversations.

Thank you for sharing! I like to use AI to help me get started when I'm feeling stuck or need a fresh perspective. I also find it helpful when I have a great idea or concept for a response but struggle to clearly articulate it. I will use AI to help make sense of my jumbled thoughts. 😀 However, I do still like to take the time to assess the AI generated content using the framework we presented in this month's webinar. It truly helps with taking a human-centered approach.

I find it is helpful in writing and ensuring the communication is warm versus potentially abrasive. I would agree with Deborah that it is also helpful in expanding discussions!

I could see AI working reasonably well with:
Creating quiz questions (if I had to generate my own content)
Brainstorming research ideas
Making jokes for your slides 😄
I would proofread everything though, especially critiquing their jokes carefully!
