How is this done and what do you do?
Leadership is a difficult quality to quantify given all of the different types of matrixes one could apply in this area. In certain circumstances, leadership depends on the situation in which various types of leadership skills are pertinent whereas others are superfluous. There is also the issue of location, as what constitutes quality leadership may depend on the nation-state location, cultural proclivities, and the skill level of the team one is leading. The type of industry can additionally…
Thoughts and research of the motivations to teach online
One of the truths about people is that incentives help compel us to perform our tasks, whether nuanced or mundane, for survival or banal reasons. In other words, we work because we believe there will be some type of reward as Easterly (2002) noted, "people respond to incentives" (p. 27). Hence, if certain tasks, behaviors, or functions receive incentives, people will work toward adapting themselves to better perforce the task, exhibit the behavior, or perform the function. This does not entail…
Can we integrate this type of learning in the online classroom? Or should we?
Experiential learning can be an effective method for helping students' integrate course material into their day-to-day lives. As Beckem and Watkins (2012) noted, experiential learning allows students to actualize the material in a real-world setting, thereby increasing the value and retention of the material. Experiential learning has the potential to help students view course material in a less esoteric manner, which can make said material less daunting and more applicable to a professional…
Here is a Great Tool to Help add Spiritual Aspects into your Online Classroom!!
As a full time online faculty member in the College of Theology, I get many questions about how can instructors make the spiritual values and Christian traditions of GCU more a part of their lives and more a part of their classrooms. As part of this process I am going to provide tools that will help the online instructors to have valuable information that they can use in their classroom setting. The goal is to help the instructor to be equipped to better answer questions or give the student’s tools to find answers to their questions. I would also like to provide our instructors with resources that will help them feel better equipped to do these types of things on their own.

How can we improve the learning process in introductory courses?
I recently took part in a meeting of a small committee that will be working on reformulating some of the introductory courses here at GCU. Part of the reasons is to improve the rigor of the courses as well as help link the content with a given course to the next courses in the sequence. While everyone on the committee has some excellent ideas, the small number of individuals involved limits our idea capacity. Many companies have used "crowd sourcing" to help in the innovative and design process…
Many modern faculty rating systems rely on the evaluation of students and of a handful of observations. This article examines whether or not this system measures what we really want to gauge

The results are mixed, but edifying and interesting.
There has been a rapid rise in the percentage of students taking online classes in the past decade. In 2002 1 in 10 college students was taking at least on online course, in 2010 1 in 3 college students was taking at least one online course (Allen, Seaman, Lederman, & Jaschik, 2012). Colleges and universities for many reasons have begun developing and implementing online programs to help meet this demand (Dykman, & Davis, 2008). Lost in this development, however, have been the…
