GCU SoTL Ambassador Program

The Grand Canyon University SoTL Ambassador Program is designed to cultivate a dynamic community of educators committed to the enhancement of teaching and learning. This program recognizes the pivotal role of faculty members in advancing academic excellence at GCU and rewards their dedication to the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL). 

The program is structured around three primary goals: 

  • Recognize and Reward: Acknowledging the commitment and contributions of faculty members to the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. 
  • Promote Excellence: Motivating ongoing engagement in SoTL activities and research to uphold high academic standards. 
  • Leadership Development: Identifying and supporting SoTL leaders to serve as inspirations and mentors for the wider academic community. 

The GCU SoTL Ambassador Program represents a significant step towards nurturing an educational culture that values continuous improvement, innovation, and leadership in teaching. The SoTL Advocate Badge is awarded to individuals who actively promote and advocate for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) within the academic community, encouraging colleagues to engage in evidence-based teaching practices and research. It is open to all GCU faculty.

Awarded to faculty members who actively collaborate with colleagues, departments, or institutions to promote and advance the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning through joint research projects, interdisciplinary initiatives, or community engagement efforts.

The GCU SoTL Ambassador Program emphasizes three critical areas: 

  • Engagement in CIRT Activities: Participants are expected to actively engage in various initiatives organized by the Center for Innovation in Research and Teaching (CIRT). This includes attending workshops, seminars, and training sessions aimed at enhancing teaching skills and methodologies. 
  • Independent SoTL Research: Ambassadors are encouraged to conduct and publish original research in the field of teaching and learning. This not only contributes to their professional development but also enriches the academic resources available within the GCU community. 
  • Mentorship: A key component of the program is the mentorship of peers. Experienced faculty members guide and support their colleagues in SoTL endeavors, fostering a collaborative and supportive educational environment.
