Abstract:  In the online college environment, one of the most effective ways to have students conduct peer editing, and as an instructor to edit student papers, is by using the Microsoft Word tool, “Track Changes,” along with a substantive feedback rubric. Coupling the track changes editing with the substantive feedback editing rubric can be an effective way to get students to look at a piece of writing critically, offer suggestions, and offer positive feedback. This form of peer editing can be utilized in any discipline where instructors require writing drafts and editing before final drafts. This presentation gives a justification for using track changes, an overview of how to use it, and tips for using it during the peer editing process.
