Apply to Become a GCU Peer Reviewer

So you are now armed and ready to contribute to the scholarly community and offer your services in peer reviewing. So where do you get started?

Sometimes you can find requests for peer-reviewer applications within the journals or on their webpages. Professional organizations within the field may also advertise openings to reviewers for publications within their discipline. If there is a particular journal within your field that you are interested in reviewing for you can alternately reach out directly to the editor to offer your service. Generally, on the journal homepage you will find the editors contact information and you can reach out them directly.

GCU publishes several journals and our editors are always on the lookout for additional peer reviewers. Below is a list of our journals and their aims:

Journal of Instructional Research

The Journal of Instructional Research (JIR) is an annual publication that highlights faculty research relevant to best practices in post-secondary instruction. Unique to JIR is the use of a two-stage evaluation process with public peer review, interactive discussion and, for interested authors, final formalized peer review.

The goals of JIR are to:

  • Enhance understanding and application of best practices in college teaching
  • Foster dialogue concerning innovative teaching, learning and assessment strategies
  • Foster a scholarly approach to the practice and profession of teaching

Canyon Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies

The Canyon Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies (CJIS) is published in print and online twice a year and highlights exemplary student and faculty research. Our annual themed issue provides a platform for writers and researchers from a range of disciplines, making CJIS unique in its interdisciplinary focus. CJIS also publishes a yearly Integration of Faith, Learning and Work issue where that interdisciplinary focus is viewed through the additional lens of faith.

Journal of Scholarly Engagement

The Journal of Scholarly Engagement (JSE) publishes original material highlighting faculty scholarly engagement in which faculty have applied their disciplinary knowledge in applied and integrative activities.

In addition to professional profiles, JSE publishes the following manuscript types:

  • Reflective practice on applied and integrative scholarly activities (see submission page for a guide for writing a reflective practice)
  • Community engagement portfolio (see submission page for a guide for writing a portfolio)
  • Empirical research on applied and integrative scholarly activities
  • Literature reviews/theoretical papers on applied and integrative scholarly activities

Journal of Educators Online

The Journal of Educators Online (JEO) is a biannual publication by the Center for Innovation in Research and Teaching at Grand Canyon University that highlights research in the broad area of Computer Mediated Learning (CML) which includes distance, online, electronic, virtual, distributed, blended and mobile learning.

The goals of JEO are to:

  • Foster dialogue concerning innovative computer-mediated teaching, learning and assessment strategies.
  • Enhance understanding and application of best practices in online teaching and learning.
