Doctrinal Comments

As I move through my orientation at GCU, I’ve been reflecting on how meaningful it is to teach in a place where faith and learning go hand in hand. I’m genuinely excited to use the university’s doctrinal statement as a foundation for engaging with students—whether they come from a Christian background or are exploring other beliefs. It’s a powerful tool for creating thoughtful conversations, encouraging deeper understanding, and helping students grow both spiritually and academically in a supportive, faith-centered environment.

I have yet to teach a class, but I am excited about the freedom and encouragement to share about the Good News of Christ and God's word!

Having the Doctrinal Statement available as a resource can be helpful to embracing diversity within the classroom. This ensures it is available for every student whether for investigating, curiosity or to help one to define Christian principles. Either way, GCU is known for this Statement of Faith and just how it fits into the historical context as well as the brand foundation GCU implements. An integral part of students embracing Finding their Purpose.

It is both an honor and a privilege to be part of a higher education community that upholds and supports these foundational doctrines. Having the opportunity to learn and serve within an institution that aligns academic pursuit with biblical truth is deeply meaningful. I am grateful to contribute to an environment where faith and scholarship work together to shape lives for eternal impact.

As a new instructor at GCU, the doctrinal statement will serve as a guide to support my students. Instructing with an over-arching purpose of kindness, compassion and respect. Using it's framework to encourage discourse, think critically and reflect on experiences as it relates to ones beliefs.

This is excellent and it is my privilege to work for an institution that supports these values. I feel like the best way to implement the doctrinal statement with my students is to do my best to live a Christ-centered life and model the tenets expressed in the doctrinal statement.

As an instructor of anatomy and physiology, I apply the doctrinal statement by teaching with an emphasis on dignity, stewardship, and respect for the human body.

As an instructor, I find the Doctrinal Statement to be a valuable framework for how I guide classroom dialogue and model professional responsibility. I often use it to remind students that while we pursue rigorous academic inquiry, our work is also shaped by honesty, respect, and a commitment to truth. When teaching, I incorporate Christian worldview perspectives into lessons by showing how faith can inform ethical decision-making, especially in complex or challenging situations. At the same time, I encourage open inquiry and respectful engagement with diverse viewpoints, making it clear that faith and academic excellence are not in conflict but can work together to form a holistic educational experience.

The video was very helpful in explaining classroom and on campus scenarios where the doctrinal statement can be applied. It gives us a frame work for our classroom discussions and how to always lead with love and openness to others perspectives.

This is very helpful as a new Adjunct faculty member to learn about the foundational Christian views and how GCU strives to accept and respect other views and beliefs of everyone.  I am excited to be part of a strong community, and be supportive to students and colleagues.

As a new instructor, I am appreciative of this opportunity to engage, learn, and grow with students and faculty and share life's experiences shaped by my faith in the decrees of the doctrinal statement.  A faith that keep me grounded in this attitude of gratitude; to be gracious and thankful for all life's events [easy and challenging]  to humble, direct, and show us that each day is an opportunity to be better versions of ourselves, than we were yesterday.

I am an online Kindergarten teacher and I pray for each of them and my fellow staff members.   I show the love of Jesus by encouraging the little ones that they are beautifully made.  I am teaching them to love one another as Jesus loves us.  I am excited to teach online educators and freely share my faith and pray for and with my students.
