Horizontal violence (HV) is a Global issue. Healthcare workers are 3x more likely to be affected than other groups of workers. Estimated cost of 4.2 billion dollars per year in the US. Horizonatl violence leads to:

• Increased turnover
• Decreased quality of care
• Increased medication errors
• Increased falls
• Increased absenteeism

100% of students surveyed experienced HV and 60% of new graduates leave their first position because of HV.

Lessons learned:

• Students do experience HV
• Students want to talk about HV
• Students want to learn methods to diffuse HV
• Most participants did not feel prepared to handle HV
• Students indicated this program is a good start but more is needed

Next Steps:

• Develop a multi-phase program
• Include education each semester
• Conduct follow up surveys to determine effectiveness
