Application Equals Transformation

                I have always thought that if you are not able to apply the information that you are learning then it is not very useful or even worthless.  How many of us can remember a lecture that we heard one week ago or a month ago.   If we challenge students to apply what they are learning then their lives will be transformed because they will remember what they are learning forever.

                I have always believed that application equals transformation.  In my classroom, I try to always ask the students to think of 1-3 things that they learned and how they can apply them to their own lives.  I ask them to write these things down so that they will remember them.  I then ask them to share what they learned and how they are going to apply it with someone else that they know within 24 hours.  This gives them accountability and when you share what you have learned with someone else, you WILL remember it longer.  I love doing this with the students because I know that as they apply what they are learning, their lives are being transformed.  I do this in discussions and on assignments at various times throughout the course.
