This was the first question I asked during my interview. But online, or brick-and-mortar, we can't stop it. High tech makes it easier to cheat nowadays than before - you can find someone on the Internet who will take the entire course for you for a fee. Even in-person, you can hide an earbud under your hair and whisper exam questions and answers to an outside party.
Hello Jerry:
Thank you for your comment and you bring up an excellent point about how technology has made it easier for student to commit plagiarism and otherwise cheat. Conversely, technology has also made it easier for instructors to catch. TurnItIn can be a very useful tool in this process. By requiring student to submit their work to the TurnItIn drop box, we are better able to make useful suggestions to our students regarding the issues of cheating.
Thanks,
Eric
