Hello,
The word technology and using it in the classroom stressed me out a lot at first too. The first time I was introduced to a computer was my first year in college so I was not born with devices and computers. Now that we have students in the I-generation that were born and raised with technology I knew I needed to bring it into my classroom to engage my learners and make learning fun. I started to use a tool called Flipgrid. This was a way students could engage in the topic of the week and seeing each other. It made the classroom "real" and it put a face to a name. I really enjoy this took and it has made my students more engaged. It was easy to use and now my students have fun while learning.

Hi Jennifer, I just joined flipgrid. How do you use this neat content in your class?

Good Morning,
I use flipgrid for my Classroom Assessment Techniques. Go to flipgrid and type in code: v6vb10m and you can see an example of my CAR and my student’s response.

Jennifer,
Thank you for sharing. I will take a look at that example. I am always looking for ways to include more technology in my asynchronous classroom or my presentations.

Greetings Jennifer!
Enjoying your points here! There are a lot of innovating technologies out there. Did you try Dragon Naturally Speaking software for your asynchronous online teaching before? I use it all the time. Let me know what you think on this one?

I use technology a lot in my courses and some of the courses require Digital Presentations. I also was not born with a mouse in hand and grew into it mostly out of curiosity and then wholeheartedly understanding the potential.
I have used ZOOM for class meetings once a week and this also brings the element on connectedness to the online classroom. Students see me and I see them and we discuss assignments due during the week and other things related to that week. It is nice because I learn more about the student, and they, me. I also record the meetings and CC it with a transcript for those who are unable to attend the meetings.
Another thing I often due is at the end of the course, I do a Virtual Pot Luck and I use Padlet. So we all post our favorite dish with the directions on how to make it and a picture of it. They like it and we all gain something to add to our recipe box.
For the digital presentations, I give them options and most of the time they use Prezi, which honestly I abhor; however they will often use SMORE which I use for my weekly Topic Overviews.
Hi Jennifer
I have had success using Zoom sessions for once a week "live chat" sessions. I host these once a week, before the first assignment is due. Even though our courses are loaded, and students have all the materials they need, sometimes they do appreciate having an actual face (video) to walk them through it. Zoom is also very easy and the free sessions are available.
MaryBeth, I also use ZOOM and I record it, make it CC, and add a transcript. That way I reach all students especially those who were not able to attend. I agree with the f2f aspect of ZOOM. It takes the sting out of a 100% online course without having those connections.
