Hi All,
I'm fairly new to GCU . I am teaching ECS 550 class this summer. My class requires my students to complete 20 hours of clinical field experiences. I noticed that one of my students submitted the form already, but with only 6 hours completed. I already sent an Early Alert, and I messaged the student.
In the gradebook the assignment for field experience has 60 points if the students complete all the 20 hours. I need your advice on how I will grade it. Should I give that student only 18 points since the student completed only 6 hours? (60 points is total for 20 hours, and 6 hours will be 18 points, right? ) Or do I have to give the student a 0? I read some of the forums questions and someone mentioned to give students incomplete .... The gradebook has points not Complete or incomplete option.
In the practicum manual I saw this:
What if the candidate does not submit the CFE Verification Form by the end of class or incomplete hours are submitted to the course?
All required clinical field experience/practicum hours not completed within the course timeframe are subject to the assignment deduction AND must be made up prior to the end of the next course. As a reminder, candidates must complete all programmatic requirements, including practicum/field experiences hours as defined in their coursework. (For candidates enrolled in additional teacher licensure programs, failure to complete the required hours, will prevent the candidate from moving forward into student teaching.) Please ensure that all missing hours have been completed in their entirety. All hours must be submitted through the online electronic system as verification forms no longer expire.
Please advise. Thank you in advance for all your great responses.
Many Blessings
Delia

Delia, If she is observing or mentoring with more than one mentor, she can submit the same forms for each mentor/teacher she interviewed or observed, and she will have to submit separate CVFs for each, so make sure they all total 20 hours. Also, remind her of this requirement. Some of my students submit 3 CVFs for 5 hours each as my class (current) requires 15 hours total. Although some of my students observe or interview the same teacher/mentor, so they include all 15 hours in one form and submit it. So, do not grade it until you are in week six and have all the hours accounted for at the time. - Mirta
Delia, If they do not submit the full amount of hours, I usually grade it as a 0. However, I have done an incomplete when grades are due and given them some extra time at the professor's discretion. Then when a student submits their hours, you can regrade on the LMS, then submit a grade change form. However, remember that some of those hours are tied to assignments, so they will probably miss a project. (at least, that is how some of my classes are)-Mirta
Note:* Sometimes the mentor is out sick or on vacation, and it is hard to obtain a form/signature, so perhaps they can have an administrator from the same school or organization to sign off on their CVF.
Thank you so much, Mirta. I will definitely remind the students about it. As we speak, the student just uploaded the second CVF form with another 6 hours. Great!!
Thank you again for your useful answer. I love this school with this great team and amazing colleagues like you.
Blessings,
Delia
