Our SoTL Spotlight for April 2023 is Susan Miedzianowski, Ph.D., CSA Dr. Miedzianowski is a Senior Adjunct Dissertation Chair for the College of Doctoral Studies at Grand Canyon University. A graduate of Capella University, her dissertation explored Ageism: Investigation of Knowledge and Attitudes of Patrol Officers Related to Their Preference to Work with Older Adults Including Those with Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias. She has had multiple articles published on the health and social aspects of aging in the Journal of the Society for Certified Senior Advisors. Dr. Miedzianowski enrolled in and completed the THINK! program offered through CIRT during the 2021-2022 Academic Year and has been actively working on SoTL research ever since. Her SoTL research activities at Grand Canyon University include presenting her research The Value and Influence of a Virtual Online Collaborative Cohort Based Academic Community for Online Doctoral Learners in the Dissertation Phase at the Online Learning Consortium in November 2022. Ongoing SoTL projects include a reflective study on the isolation of doctoral learners in the dissertation process, and a quantitative study to investigate the characteristics of doctoral learners as it relates to the value of their dissertation studies.
