Can we get a copy of Dr. Blake's Tips for Success that she gives students?
Dear Mark, Josh and Dr. Marlene Blake:
I loved Dr. Blake's focus on the word passion and motivation. I noticed she has been in education 15 years. My maternal grandparents were TEAM missionaries to India and lived their faith. They did inspire me as a child. My parents as Baptist pastors taught me not only Bible and academics, but especially humility and compassion. Learner-centerdness: I think Dr. Blake's approach encourages and motivates shyer student to speak out. I was a quiet introvert myself as a Cortez High School student many years ago. : ) Your checklist example reminds me how important rubrics and teaching time efficiency and study skills are for our students. Compassion. hmmmm . . . Jesus left the shepherd's fold where all the other sheep were sleeping safely and went all the way up the mountain in the rain and thunderstorm for that lamb caught in the thornbush on the edge of the cliff shivering in the cold. That was one small lamb - me. He carried me home in His arms. My name Rachel means "a female sheep or ewe" in Hebrew. Thanks for sharing this and it was absolutely inspiring. Good night to the three of you! : )

Mark, Josh and Dr. Marlene Blake,
It is always enjoyable and inspiring to stream the CIRT podcasts. I appreciated the Learner centeredness suggestions and how to apply them.
As I listened to podcast I couldn't help but think of my teachers and professors in the traditional classroom, with whom I truly connected. One of the attributes all of them possessed was that they were great "story tellers." Each of them had the unique gift to present content in a "student-friendly" format. Often content, which may have been challenging or confusing, was immersed in a meaningful personal connection. This truly made the content seem real!
Thank you again for your time and effort! Have a blessed weekend!
All the Best,
Matt
P.S. Can't wait to watch the TED Talk video on Grit (an attribute which today's Digital Natives need to develop).
Great show Dr. Blake, Josh and Mark!
Hi Rachel, thanks so much for your kind comments! I am so glad you enjoyed the focus on motivating and encouraging by embracing a learner centered approach of compassion!
Hi Matt, I am glad you were also inspired by the learner centeredness suggestions! Enjoy watching the Grit TED Talk.
Hi Lisa, I provide "tips for success" based on the weekly topics, objectives, and assignments. I like to include this information in a checklist for students to provide additional guidance on the weekly expectations. Often times, I share a suggested schedule of daily tasks to help support students in balancing between personal, professional, and academic activities. Please feel free to reach out if there are additional questions. I am always happy to help!
If anyone is interested in other learner centered practices, please feel free to explore the P2P on demand series. Workshop 3 specifically focuses on Learner-Centeredness: Helping Ensure Each Student Succeeds.
Best Blessings!
Hi Rachel, thanks so much for sharing! It is terrific that you encourage the use of resources on the Student Success Center! This is another awesome way to embrace a learner centered approach!
