As a new adjunct faculty member at GCU I am interested in creating a warm and friendly atmosphere for students in which they are comfortable and feel free to express themselves with regard to topics. Your suggestions are very helpful toward that goal.
This is a great presentation. I find it can be difficult to read tone in written communication. Often times, students misinterpret my posts in the discussion forum or emails. I think it is important to to let student know that they need to take the text for what it is, and not over-analyze or over-think written communications. Nice work!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on tone in the online classroom. Have you thought of creating version 2.0 that fits our current LoudCloud format? ^_^
I have found that setting a proper tone is extremely important, especially during the initial weeks. Would you advocate giving each student a call to help alleviate some of their fears around the course?
