Using Multiple Computer Monitors for Ease and Organization in Online Teaching - Nancy McLaughlin
To optimize online student engagement it is imperative that the instructor be organized, this can be enhanced through the use of more than one computer monitor (1) in preparation and setting up the classroom, (2) in engaging with the students' discussions and questions, ensuring that vital subject information is conveyed, and (3) in grading assignments so that they include the necessary feedback. This presentation depicts how spreading out work across two monitors can bring efficiency both for individual classes and for teaching multiple sections. Examples include:
- Checklists and multiple screens for initial course setup and weekly maintenance for compliance and necessary information for students
- Spreadsheets of critical subject matter concepts alongside discussion board for personal and comprehensive participation
- Opening several documents simultaneously in email replies and grading (TurnIt In report, rubric, essay) for accurate and personalized feedback
- Technical information and options for those interested.
