Looking for an economical (AKA - free) alternative to SPSS for your data analysis?
Then PSPP may be for you! PSPP is an open-source statistical analysis software package designed as an alternative to SPSS. For more information, see the PSPP website at: http://www.gnu.org/software/pspp/get.html
PSPP is a program for statistical analysis of sampled data. It is a free replacement for the proprietary program, SPSS.
One goal of the PSPP project is compatibility with the SPSS language. It currently features:
- High-quality output formatting.
- An easy to use graphical user interface.
- A command line interface to allow seasoned users to rapidly perform analysis.
- Portability: PSPP is easy to port. It should be simple to port it to any POSIX.1 compliant operating system having an ANSI C…
The Research Guide for Students is a comprehensive library of resources to conduct research and present the findings. While the guide is obviously geared toward students, the depth and detail of the resources available make this an ideal resource for researchers at all levels.
As described by the Research Guide for Students:
The goal of this site is to provide all the necessary tools for students to conduct research and to present their findings. Site provides a Quick Click to Search Engines, annotated Research, Writing, and Style Guides (MLA, APA, Chicago, Turabian, CGOS, CBE, Harvard), and Worlds of Knowledge housing some of the best education Web sites in a Virtual Library arranged by the Dewey Decimal Classification System. The DDC was created by Melvil Dewey in…

The R project, based upon the S and S+ stats packages, has developed an extremely powerful set of "packages" that operate within one program. Although described as merely "an effective data handling and storage facility [with] a suite of operators for calculations on arrays, in particular, matrices" R is, in fact, a very useful interactive package for data analysis.
There are many possible statistical programs that can be used in psychological research. They differ in multiple ways, at least some of which are ease of use, generality, and cost. Some of the more common packages used are Systat, SPSS, and SAS. These programs have GUIs (Graphical User Interfaces) that are relatively easy to use but that are unique to each package. These programs are also very expensive and limited in what they can do. Although convenient to use, GUI based operations are…
When most people think of ethics, they think of rules for distinguishing between right and wrong, such as the Golden Rule, a code of professional conduct like the Hippocratic Oath, a religious creed like the Ten Commandments, or a wise aphorisms like the sayings of Confucius. This is the most common way of defining "ethics": norms for conduct that distinguish between acceptable and unacceptable behavior.
As discussed by David B. Resnik, J.D., Ph.D. at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences:
There are several reasons why it is important to adhere to ethical norms in research. First, norms promote the aims of research, such as knowledge, truth, and avoidance of error. For example, prohibitions against fabricating, falsifying, or misrepresenting research data promote the truth and avoid error. Second, since research often involves a great deal of cooperation and coordination…
Looking for current information on your research topic? Need a little help getting started? Check out the Internet Public Library (ipl2)!
Internet Public Library (ipl2) is a public service organization and a learning/teaching environment. To date, thousands of students and volunteer library and information science professionals have been involved in answering reference questions for our Ask an ipl2 Librarian service and in designing, building, creating and maintaining the ipl2's collections. There is too much information on the Internet... okay, well, maybe "too much" is an overstatement, but the reality is that there is soooooo much information available that it becomes difficult to track, monitor and organize everything that is out there (and let's not even talk about trying to re-find information via hunt and peck googling...). Fortunately, there are a range of Web 2.0 tools to help you organize the online information that is relevant to your research!
As highlighted by the Online Education Database article, "e-Learning Reloaded: Top 50 Web 2.0 Tools for Info Junkies, Researchers & Students", the following applications can be lifesavers in enhancing the ease and efficiency by which you are able to utilize online information:
Organization
With all of the information available online, it's hard to keep track, but these tools will help you stay together.
