Facilitating courses online at GCU has been a rewarding experience for me. I enjoy bringing my teaching experience into a venue that is enlightening for others.

Being able to assess adult learners’ multifaceted needs is a skill that instructors must learn to apply in the world of virtual learning and on ground campus settings. Learning involves several sensory domains, such as thinking, feeling, hearing, and touching.

A student’s academic world is central to living in the virtual world because of how they interact, exchange ideas, and work with their instructors. This ability is an impressive mechanism for not just attracting students to enroll in respective college programs, but, serves as an additional incentive in that students are able to attend class from anywhere in the world, can submit assignments at any time, and interact with faculty directly through a virtual classroom and environment.

During my time here at GCU, I always try to remember my experience as a student in an online learning environment and be sure that I am meeting the expectations that I had as a student. I completed my MBA online when the Online Learning Environment was relatively new and things were not near as advanced as they are today.

Most students desire and expect to be challenged and mentored as they proceed through their academic programs of study. Setting high standards for student performance translates into a stimulating learning environment in which students demonstrate their ability to comprehend subject matter, think critically, integrate supportive source material, and apply concepts in practical ways.

I find myself increasingly confused as to how to evaluate essays within the context of respecting cultural diversity while at the same time maintaining equity acorss all student grades. Yet I do believe it is an educator’s duty and responsibility to maintain the integrity of a college degree that speaks to an ability to effectively communicate in our primary language of English.

Successful online classrooms are dependent upon effective communication and the interaction of ideas. Ideas take the usual form of descriptive vocabulary but sensory connectors can enhance the understanding of complex concepts.

Online instructors are empowered with many opportunities to help students enhance their knowledge and enrich their lives through education—the ultimate key to advancing our civilization. As educators, our ongoing challenge is to find techniques to motivate all students to consistently perform at their highest academic level―a challenge that is greatly intensified in our faceless, inanimate cyber world.
