Dr. Dickey and Dr. Dyer presented at the National Council for Exceptional Children Conference in Orlando, Florida. Their presentation entitled, “Removing Barriers for University Students with Disabilities”, included proactive strategies that can be implemented to set students up for success. These strategies include things that can be done at both the high school and university levels to ensure students with disabilities understand the laws, their disability, accommodations and how to communicate with faculty. https://exceptionalchildren.org/convention

In addition, Dr. Dyer presented “Facilitating Effective IEP Meetings” at LDA's 59th Annual International Conference.
Session description: The information presented in the session will support teachers and all stakeholders involved in IEP meetings to ensure the IEP meeting is effective. Effective IEP meetings create an atmosphere that allows all stakeholders to collaborate in improving student performance. In this session, participants will review IDEA and the purpose of the IEP meeting They will learn specific strategies for running an effective IEP meeting. They will collaborate with other participants to practice these strategies and develop effective IEP goals. Participants will learn 3 specific strategies an effective IEP meeting. Participants will learn the components of an effective IEP goal. Participants will practice collaborating with other stakeholders to create an effective IEP for students.
