Call for Proposals: Case Studies
Title of Book: Health Policy Management: A Case Approach
Editors: Rachel Ellison, PhD, University of Louisiana at Lafayette
Lesley Clack, ScD, University of Georgia
Introduction: Health policy is continuously changing, and textbooks must be constantly updated to keep up with the ongoing developments. The purpose of this textbook is to provide introductory health policy material, along with a variety of cases that are relevant to health policy. Utilizing a case approach will allow the text to be more applicable regardless of the policy landscape, and will allow professors and students to be able to critically analyze each case from a current health policy standpoint.
Audience: This book will be targeted towards undergraduate courses in Health Policy.
Features: The unique features of this textbook are that each chapter will be supplemented with relevant case studies. We are seeking contributing authors to provide case studies related to the following topics:
The Policymaking Process
Individual Rights
Cost of Health Care
Access to Health Care
Social Determinants
The Uninsured and Underinsured
Quality of Care
HIPAA
EMTALA
Medicare
Medicaid
Children’s Health Insurance Program
Modern Health Insurance
The US Health Care System
Bioethics
Selection Criteria: The submitted case study proposals will be analyzed and the editors will respond to all prospective contributors with feedback indicating whether the proposal was accepted or rejected. Rejection would not be a sign of a poor submission, but rather an indication that the focus does not fit the purposes of the book. The proposals will undergo an internal review process, where each proposal will be reviewed by two reviewers.
Submission Procedure: We welcome all contributions to the book. Proposals should include: a tentative title for the case study, a short abstract clearly explaining the mission/objective of the case study (limited to 250 words), and a short biographical sketch (limited to 100 words) and full name, title and institution, mailing address, email address, and phone number for each author.
All submitted proposals must be written in English. Proposals may be submitted individually or collaboratively. Contributors may submit more than one proposal. In the case of multiple authors, all names, addresses, etc. must accompany the submission and a single individual must be identified as the primary contact.
Important dates: Proposals are due by January 15, 2018 to [email protected]. All authors will be notified regarding the status of their proposals by January 31, 2018 and will receive specific case study guidelines. Full case studies, including 4 to 5 discussion questions related to the case and answers for the questions, are due in Microsoft Word format, with APA style references, by April 30, 2018. Feedback on required revisions, changes, and modifications will be returned by May 15, 2018. Revised case studies must be resubmitted no later than June 15, 2018.

The first, a Copyright Transfer Form, asks you to confirm that the work is entirely original to you, and signs over copyright of the material to the publisher. The second is a simple information form that the publisher will use to credit you in the book as a contributing author, and to send you a complimentary copy of the book upon publication. No author’s fee will be paid for contributing authors.
