CLC's are entwined in the curriculum at GCU and these can be an additional way that instructors can foster critical thinking skills. While the goal of a CLC is described as "connecting people through sharing of experiences or perspectives, mentoring, or engaging collectively in the exploration of a new topic" it can be much more than that. CLC's are the perfect venue to encourage active critical thinking skills.
It should not be assumed that students have adequate skills to advance CLC discussions on their own to the point of critical thinking, so an instructor can encourage, foster, and develop these skills within the CLC through a series of structured techniques. The end result is increased learning and satisfaction.
