Technology Teaching Tools

Technology Teaching Tools are short, online, asynchronous modules highlighting a technology teaching tool along with relevant pedagogical implementation strategies. Some of the CIRT Technology Tools discussed below rely on freeware downloads. Prior to utilizing these technologies, you are encouraged to understand the potential risks associated with freeware; see the article "Why Free Software Downloads Aren't Always Safe" for an overview of key considerations.

Pedagogical Ideas

In the classroom, Dropbox can be used in a variety of ways. Some ideas include the following:

  • Classroom Connection - Students begin an assignment in class, save their assignments in Dropbox, and complete the assignment as homework. This seamlessly connects guided practice with independent practice helping assure that learners retain the ideas of a lesson. As an added benefit - no more lost assignments!
  • The Big Project - Extending from Classroom Connection, students begin a project in class and upload it to Dropbox. Now the project can be worked on during available class time, study hall time, and at home. Changes are never lost so the project can keep progressing.
  • Teacher Exclusive: Electronic Grade Book - Save your grade book securely to Dropbox. Now, you have access to it from anywhere - including your smart phone.

This is helpful to store electronic data and course material in confidential way. It is very comfortable to get access to material and present anywhere needed.
