This presentation will explore ways faculty can incorporate service learning in the online classroom.  Service learning is an effective active learning strategy that can optimize the learning experience, promote civic engagement and foster a deeper connection to the classroom material. Integrating service learning in the online modality also encourages students to use critical thinking skills and enhances the classroom discussions. In addition, University promoted community service helps online students feel more connected to their college community while demonstrating GCU's Christian values outside of the classroom. The authors will describe how service learning can be used in online education to increase motivation, community, and student success rates in a variety of content areas.
